HP LaserJet 1000 Product Series - Printer Light Patterns


Introduction
HP LaserJet 1000 series printers use two light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to show the printer's status. This document describes these status lights and explains how to identify and interpret the patterns of light they produce.
Status lights
The status lights are located at the top left of the front of the printer. The Ready light indicates that the printer is ready to print or that the printer is processing data. The Attention light indicates that the input tray is empty, the toner door is open, the print cartridge is missing, or another type of error occurred.

Status light modes
Status lights operate in one of three modes: on, off, or blinking.

Status light patterns
Pattern Condition of the printer Action
Ready

The printer is ready to print.
No action is necessary.
Processing

The printer is receiving or processing data.
Wait for the job to print.
Cleaning Mode/Engine test

A cleaning page or engine test page is printing.
Wait until the cleaning page is finished printing and the printer is in Ready mode. This could take up to two minutes.

Out of memory

The printer is out of memory.
The print job may be too complex for the printer’s memory capacity. Try lowering the resolution. For more information, see the section in the HP LaserJet 1000 Series Printer User Guide on "Understanding Print Quality Settings."
Door open, media out, no print cartridge, media jam, or media jam levers are down

The printer is in an error state that requires operator intervention or help.
Check the following:

The toner door is completely closed.

Media is loaded. For instructions, see the section in the HP LaserJet 1000 Series Printer User Guide on "Loading Media Into the Input Tray."

The print cartridge is correctly installed in the printer. For instructions, see the section in the HP LaserJet 1000 Series Printer User Guide on "Changing the print cartridge."

There is no media jam. For instructions, see the section in the HP LaserJet 1000 Series Printer User Guide on "Clearing Printer Media Jams."

Verify that the media jam levers are in the upright position.
Pattern Condition of the printer Action
Printer initialization

A printer initialization is taking place.
No action is necessary.
Fatal error

Both lights are on.
Unplug the printer for five minutes and then plug it in again.

If the printer still has an error, contact HP for additional support. For more information, see the section in the HP LaserJet 1000 Series Printer User Guide on "Service and Support."
Universal serial bus (USB) cable is not connected or there is no power

Both lights are off.
Make sure there is power.

Unplug both ends of the power cord, and plug them back in.

Unplug the power cord, disconnect both ends of the USB cable, reconnect both ends of the USB cable, and plug the power cord in again.

CAUTION: Always unplug the printer before connecting the USB cable to the printer. Otherwise, the printer may be damaged.
